Health and Human Services Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan 2022 – 2026

Together with the Department of Health, the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing released the Health and Human Services Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan 2022 – 2026.

It is one of seven Adaption Action Plans (AAPs), each identified as key systems vulnerable to the challenges of climate change, with each setting out the extensive work underway and the priorities for the next five years. The plans have a focus on disadvantaged and vulnerable communities recognising they are disproportionately impacted by changing climate.

The plan sets clear actions to help our community stay healthy and well and aims to improve climate resilience of health and social housing infrastructure while also building on our community and sector engagement on important climate and health issues.

For some people, climate change is an additional pressure on top of existing vulnerabilities and challenges, and people who are more vulnerable are often the least equipped to adapt.

The AAPs will ensure vulnerable people are at the centre of decision-making that affects them and will help support vulnerable communities respond to the impacts of climate change.

Feedback from the public consultation informed the final plan and the contributions and will provide valuable information for consideration during the planning and implementation of projects and programs for individual actions.
