The Victorian Government has released its response to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (Disability Royal Commission).

The government acknowledges Victorians with disability who advocated for the establishment of the Disability Royal Commission and those who generously shared their experiences with the Commission throughout the inquiry. Your voices, and the voices of all people with disability, must remain at the forefront of our work.

The Victorian Government’s response marks an important milestone in our work to create a more inclusive society and builds on work that is already underway to improve outcomes for Victorians with disability including through the Inclusive Victoria: state disability plan 2022-2026.

The Disability Royal Commission’s final report, was released in September last year, following four and a half years of inquiry. The report includes 222 recommendations.

The final report discusses the violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation experienced by people with disability in Australia. It also discusses a vision for a more inclusive Australia in which people with disability live free from harm.

The Victorian Government engaged proactively with the Disability Royal Commission throughout its inquiry and has carefully considered the Disability Royal Commission’s recommendations.
