The City of Ballarat wil use the grant to develop comprehensive family violence primary prevention projects, including:

  • prevention of violence campaigns
  • embedding prevention strategies into community infrastructure design guidelines
  • collaborating with local businesses
  • engaging men and boys across the community.

The Free from Violence Local Government Program supports a whole-of-council approach to family violence prevention by supporting prevention activities in the workplace, with leadership, and through the policies and the services councils deliver to communities.

Local government is a key partner in Victoria’s primary prevention work and councils play a pivotal role in their communities in influencing community attitudes and behaviours as service providers, large local employers and municipal leaders.

Alongside Ballarat, 11 other metropolitan, regional and rural councils also received funding as part of this program.

The Free From Violence Local Government Program contributes to the Victorian Government’s vision to create a Victoria where everyone experiences equality, respect and lives free from violence.
