Women working in traditionally male-dominated industries face many challenges. Gender discrimination, sexism and sexual harassment, inflexible working arrangements, and a lack of access to paid parental leave are just some of the obstacles women face working in male-dominated industries.
These obstacles reinforce harmful gender norms and attitudes that affect everyone. In the operations sector, these barriers have resulted in low workforce participation from women and fewer women in managerial roles.
The Victorian Government is committed to fostering an inclusive operations sector where women are valued, respected and empowered to reach their full potential.
We have partnered with the National Association of Women in Operations (NAWO) to highlight the success stories of business creating more inclusive workplaces for women.
Women are forging strong career pathways across the operations sector and challenging the outdated notions of what a woman can do. These NAWO stories celebrate women’s leadership in various fields including manufacturing, mining, transport and logistics, and engineering.
This project complements action in the new gender equality strategy Our equal state, to develop strategies to boost women’s participation in Victoria’s manufacturing and energy industries.
