Family violence intervention orders issue

On 15 November 2024, an update to the computer system that supports Family Violence Intervention Orders made in the Magistrates’ and Children’s Courts impacted printed orders. The update impacts copies of orders made between 15 November 2024 and 5 March 2025.

The Victorian Government acted out of an abundance of caution to make sure that victims are safe and that respondents continue to comply with those orders by introducing legislation.

The Family Violence Protection Amendment Act 2025 was passed and came into effect on Tuesday 18 March.

All family violence intervention orders made during this period are valid, they remain in place and are enforceable.

Breaches of all family violence intervention orders will be enforced by Victoria Police.
